Russian city Kaliningrad opens for gamblers from Denmark, Sweden and Norway
As a proof that the globalization is not reffering just to Internet business, you probably have heard that Russia has made online gambling illegal, but wants to keep 4 zone for foreigners.
According to some news, this could be the case of Kaliningrad, where the International Tourist Consultants says it has all the advantages of becoming a nice place to visit and stay for some gambling activities from Scandinavian gamblers :
“In Denmark, studies have shown that the annual gambling expenditure equals DKR26.8bn. In five years this number has risen by more than 150 per cent, although casinos in the entire region face many constraints.
“In Sweden they are state-owned and strictly controlled. Denmark has only six casinos and no new licences have been issued in more than 10 years. In Norway casinos are prohibited.
“Combining this with the good air and sea links that exist from both Copenhagen and southern Sweden and from the rest of Scandinavia via Copenhagen Airport, to Kaliningrad, then these could in the future be interesting markets and provide many tourists coming mostly for shorter stays.”
Just the Russian Orthodox Church does not seem too happy…
